Contractor Donates Day of Service to Remodel Home of Teen with Special Needs

On a sunny, winter afternoon, Gloucester County, NJ resident Sarah P. picked up her daughter Gabby from the school bus and drove a short distance to the home of her parents. While Gabby enjoyed Grandma and Grandpa’s love and attention, Sarah had ulterior motives for the unexpected mid-afternoon visit. She didn’t want Gabby to know that a team of electricians, painters, and contractors had literally taken over her home, adding beautiful aesthetic touches to her daughter’s bedroom and the hall bathroom and, most importantly, creating a safer environment.

Pergolizzi accepted the prestigious award for exemplifying the highest standards of care in front of thousands of attendees during BAYADA’s annual awards ceremony on April 27 in Philadelphia, PA. The award was presented by BAYADA CEO David Baiada.

The Lego wall is a signature feature of the center, along with brightly colored floor mats, a crash pad, a climbing structure, bean bag chairs, crayons, puzzles, books, balls, and blocks. It’s all used as part of an evidence-based approach called applied behavior analysis (ABA) therapy to treat individuals with an autism spectrum disorder and related learning or social disorders.

BAYADA Habilitation helps individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live safely at home and participate in their communities with comfort, independence, and dignity. The CARF accreditation was awarded to habilitation offices in Charlotte, Greensboro, Hickory, Shelby, Wilmington, and Winston Salem in N.C. and to the Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, State College, and Wilkes-Barre offices in P.A.
