HHA Hero of the Year, Anne Pannone (center), gathers from left to right with new National Hero Committee Chair Jackie Kirchhoff, Client Services Manager Elizabeth Sweeney, Retired Director and National Hero Committee Chair Ann Baiada, and BAYADA Founder and President Mark Baiada.
This June, Anne Pannone was recognized as BAYADA’s Home Health Aide of the Year.in 2017. Chosen among thousands of nominees, Pannone was presented the award at the company’s annual meeting at the Philadelphia Convention Center.
"Anne is amazing. She greets everyone with a smile and a song,” says BAYADA Client Services Manager Elizabeth Sweeney. “She wants to make an impact on people.”
For seven years, Pannone has provided bathing, dressing cleaning, cleaning, companionship, and food preparation for her clients. Her proactive approach in caregiving has saved lives, since she is constantly checking smoke alarms, frayed rugs, and sharp objects around her clients’ homes.
She goes the extra mile figuratively and literally, carrying labels in her bag for when she cleans out refrigerators or cabinets. “She always wants to make things easier for her clients,” says Sweeney. “Large lettering and checking expiration dates go a long way.” Also, during the Papal visit in Philadelphia a few years ago and during last year’s blizzard, Pannone’s phrase was, “Just send me where I am most needed.”
What also makes her so special is her demeanor. Not only is she the “singing nurse” but she’s also described as “the voice for the people” because she tells her clients that every day is "Independence Day" and that they need to stand up for themselves in life.
“I am filled with such gratitude for receiving this award,” Pannone says. “To me, I was simply doing what I always do, helping people. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
Pannone has also been named the 2017 Pennsylvania Direct Care Worker of the year by the Pennsylvania Homecare Association (PHA).

Established in 1999, the BAYADA Hero of the Year Program recognizes home health care professionals who consistently demonstrate the company’s core values of compassion, excellence, and reliability. Each quarter, patients and peers nominate their local heroes. From the local heroes, division heroes are selected and ultimately four national heroes are chosen among five disciplines: registered nurse, licensed practical nurse, therapist, home health aide, and social worker. The four national heroes are recognized at the annual awards ceremony.
