BAYADA Pediatrics, a specialty practice of BAYADA Home Health Care, has partnered with doForms, a leading provider of workflow automation software, to develop and release an electronic documentation system called BAYADA Pediatrics Care Connect to its more than 5,500 pediatric health care professionals. BAYADA provides nursing care at home and school to over 6,000 children annually  from birth through adolescence who have a wide range of complex medical diagnoses.

“Our goal for implementing an electronic documentation platform was to enhance care for our patients through improved quality and efficiency,” said David Baiada, who was appointed as BAYADA’s Chief Executive Officer on August 17, succeeding his father and company founder Mark Baiada who transitioned to the role of Chairman. “BAYADA Pediatrics Care Connect also makes for a more positive work experience for our employees, allowing us to recruit and retain more nurses who can help keep children with special needs safe at home, with their families, and where they want to be.”

BAYADA Pediatrics Care Connect electronically captures clinical information such as nursing shift notes and clinical assessments. Prior to implementing this system, clinical documentation was completed at the patient’s home using a paper-based system, which was then either mailed or dropped off to the administrative office.

The new system will help enhance efficiency, save time, reduce errors, and improve clinical care, which could lead to a decrease in hospitalizations and a better quality of life for pediatric patients. In addition, the system will provide staff and patients with status updates, produce payroll reports, and serve as a communications hub for announcements, reminders, and tutorials.

“We’re pleased to be able to play an integral role in BAYADA’s digital transformation strategy and contribute to improved quality of care for their patients,” said doForms CEO John Darienzo.

Nurses and aides will access the cloud-based system through a user-friendly tablet that features a unique, secure login. Administrative staff will have access to the information through a web-based portal in the office. In addition, family members will be able to sign documents electronically, and will also be assigned a family user ID so they can access their child’s documentation.

“I love the tablet! It is so much quicker to chart the important things,” said Jeanne Langley, LPN, who works in the BAYADA Pediatrics office in Greensboro, NC. “I love that it makes the entire process much faster so I can get back to my favorite and best part, taking care of my patient!”

Following a three-month pilot, which included six offices representing 200 patients and more than 300 nurses, the system will be rolled out to BAYADA’s 74 pediatrics offices in 13 states in phases over the coming months. In addition, the new system will also contribute to the company’s green initiative, reducing the use of more than 23,000 pieces of paper, per office, per month. This is more than 19 million pieces of paper per year.
