BAYADA’s investment will fund education for 40 students pursuing nursing credentials at York Tech

Rock Hill, SC (July 15, 2025) BAYADA Home Health Care, the nation’s largest independent, nonprofit home health care provider with 33,000 employees worldwide, has granted York Technical College $600,000 to help combat the nursing shortage in South Carolina.

The state is hurtling toward the fourth largest shortage of registered nurses in the US, with over 19% of positions unfilled by 2037, according to the Health Resources and Services Administration.

BAYADA and York Tech have joined forces to educate and train aspiring nurses and nurse assistants with a new apprenticeship program. Students in the program who work part time at BAYADA may be eligible to receive up to $23,000 in scholarship funds toward their pursuit of nursing credentials, including:

  • Nurse Assistant ECG Technician or Patient Care Technician (PCT)
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

At BAYADA, students can expect to gain paid, hands-on home care experience in:

  • Pediatric Nursing: family-centered care services for children with a wide range of diagnoses and care needs, from birth to 18, at home and in school.
  • Adult Private Duty Nursing: from young adults to seniors, PDN care services manage a wide variety of medical needs, including highly complex, ICU-level diagnoses.
  • Personal Care: household support and companionship for seniors and adults who require assistance to enjoy independent, safe, and fulfilling lives.

“Home health care is comprehensive and highly personalized—professional caregivers need to be prepared for anything,” said Jenni Cairns, Director of BAYADA’s Rock Hill office providing adult and pediatric nursing and personal care services. “That is exactly why we are partnering with York Tech to provide the mentored, hands-on practice that is critical for students to build expertise, confidence, and decision-making skills to deliver compassionate, excellent, and reliable home care.”

York Tech has some of the best healthcare programs in South Carolina with its nursing program ranking second out of 31 nursing schools. The programs equip aspiring healthcare professionals with a strong foundation in sciences, alongside essential industry knowledge and crucial social skills in caring, communication, and critical thinking. These comprehensive program curricula prepare graduates to confidently pass their licensing exams and become top-notch professionals.

“This extraordinary gift is more than a scholarship—it’s a lifeline that removes financial barriers and empowers our students to pursue their dreams of becoming nurses,” said Tisha L. Poteat, Chief Advancement Officer and Executive Director of the York Technical College Foundation. “Thanks to BAYADA’s generosity, more students can answer the call to care, to heal, and to serve—changing not only their own lives, but the lives of every patient and family they will touch.”

The scholarship awards from BAYADA, sourced entirely from COVID-19 public stimulus dollars for caregivers and clinicians, are renewable each semester. Amounts vary based on the program of study.

Prospective students may apply for the scholarship program at any time, with York Tech enrollment and paid on-the-job training with BAYADA beginning the following semester for eligible applicants.
