Maya Mironenko, a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with BAYADA, has been named the 2025
When Riverlyn was born, she was diagnosed with Shone’s Complex—a rare and serious heart condition involving a hole in the heart (VSD), coarctation of the aorta, and severe mitral valve stenosis. She underwent her first open-heart surgery within a week of birth, followed by two more complex procedures. Each time, her parents faced the terrifying reality of possibly losing their child. Bringing her home from the hospital was both a relief and an overwhelming responsibility. That’s when Maya entered their lives. Her calm presence and clinical skill helped ease the transition, giving the Flemmings the confidence and support they needed to care for their daughter.
Maya’s role quickly evolved into something far beyond bedside nursing. She became a vital part of the family's care system—joining appointments, collaborating with therapists, and helping to implement interventions that have propelled Riverlyn’s development. From sitting up and crawling to eating independently and learning to speak, Maya has celebrated every milestone as if it were her own. “She doesn’t just meet the baseline,” says Lindsay. “She goes above and beyond.” With her steady guidance, compassion, and deep knowledge, Maya has become a trusted partner in Riverlyn’s healing and a cornerstone of the family’s daily life.
Maya was honored as BAYADA’s 2025 LPN National Hero of the Year at Awards Weekend in Los Angeles, CA, recognized for her extraordinary commitment, compassion, and clinical excellence. For Maya, nursing is more than a job—it’s passion and purpose. She brings a deep emotional investment to every client she serves, forming bonds that go beyond care plans and vitals.
“When you are where you're supposed to be, and living your passion, maybe that's why it’s so much easier to provide love,” Maya says. “This is what I’m meant to do.”
The National Hero of the Year Award is part of BAYADA’s Hero Program, which recognizes and rewards those who exceed the highest standards of quality care and work ethic at an office, division, and national level. Heroes can be nominated by their colleagues and clients. All BAYADA employees and clients can nominate any registered nurse, licensed practical nurse, home health aide, therapist, or other professional caregivers.
